Helen Barbara Livingston, age 100 of Clinton Township, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Pine Ridge of Plumbrook in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Mrs. Livingston was born on January 2, 1919 in Niagara Falls, New York, the middle of Stanley and Anna Grudzien’s three children. When Helen was 6, the family moved to Hamtramck. She graduated from Hamtramck High School, where she was the captain of the school’s field hockey and tennis teams. After graduation, she worked as the team leader of the women who produced gelatin capsules at pharmaceutical manufacturer Parke-Davis, where she was asked to show machinist Roy Livingston to the capsule engineering department on his first day of work.

On June 30, 1949, Helen and Roy were married in Detroit. Mrs. Livingston retired from Parke Davis in 1953 when she and Roy were expecting their first child. When her children were somewhat older, she returned to the workforce as an attendant at the Macomb County Youth Home, where she worked for more than 15 years. While she enjoyed tennis and field hockey in her younger years, she later enjoyed both bowling and golf. She even shot two holes-in-one, and she and Roy continued to play golf well into their 80’s.

Mrs. Livingston’s creativity was remarkable: She was an avid seamstress, knitter and needlepointer who often created her own patterns and designs. She sculpted, fired, painted and sewed clothes for the many porcelain dolls that she created. And she designed and made some of the artwork that adorned the walls in her homes in Clinton Township and Pompano Beach, Florida.

Mrs. Livingston was predeceased by her parents, sister Jane, brother Matthew, and devoted husband of 59 1/2 years, Roy. She is survived by her children Bradford (Kathleen) Livingston and Sandra (Donald) Tallman, and her grandchildren Clayton Livingston, Amy Livingston (Matthew) Craig, Nathan (Nicole) Tallman, and Andrew (Augusta) Tallman. She is also survived by her three great-grandchildren Anton Livingston, Grant Tallman, and Claire Tallman.

Entombment will take place in a private service for the immediate family at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township on Monday, May 13, 2019. A memorial service for friends and family is scheduled for June 8, 2019.

Memorial contributions to the Hospice of Michigan, 989 Spaulding SE, Ada, Michigan 49301 would be appreciated.
