Naomi Beatrice Long was born to the union of Samuel and Nola Parker on Easter Sunday April 7,1929 in Galesburg Illinois. She was the fourth of six children. As a child, Naomi was raised up in the Church of God in Christ and accepted Christ at an early age. After growing up she became the president of the Young Peoples Willing Workers (Y.P.W.W). She graduated from Churchill Junior High and Galesburg Senior High School. Naomi was very active and ambitious, she worked and bought her own car while in high school. She broadcast on radio for the American Red Cross and also worked with the Womans Vets Club.
In 1954, she came to Detroit, Michigan where she met and married the late Mr. Rufus Long. To this union one child was born Karen Ruth. Naomi also pursued studies at New Era Professional College in Chicago, Illinois, Master's International University of Divinity in Evanston, Indiana and the University of Detroit. She worked as an administrator at AT&T for 34 years and her picture appeared on the Detroit Yellow Pages. Naomi was a faithful member of The Greater Shield of Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop James Jennings Jr. until she became ill. She enjoyed hobbies such as belonging to the Boston-Edison Association, getting signatures to run for Wayne County Commissioner, teaching young girls about charm, and reading to elementary school children.
Mrs. Long departed this life on October 21, 2019 at 10:55 a.m. God had called her home to her eternal rest. She leaves to cherish her memory a dedicated daughter and son-in-law Dr. Karen Ruth and Clyde Wilson, two loving grandchildren Clyde Blaine II, and Krystal Elaine, a beloved sister Mrs. Ruthie M. Haynie of East Orange, New Jersey, five cherished nieces Nola, Barbara, Ann, Sharon (Willie), Joanne (Raymond), one nephew Robert, several cousins, and a host of other relatives, friends, and church family.
