Obituary

Paul M. Ross, age 89 of Clinton Township, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Paul was born in Detroit on August 30, 1929, son of the late Paul Gustav Wilhelm and the late Leontine (nee: Hefner) Ross.

After graduating from high school, Paul went to trade school and became a Journeyman Electrician. In 1952, Paul married the love of his life, Mary, whom he shared 56 blissful years with and together were blessed with five children.

If you ask his family, Paul was a family man and a man of faith. He was a long-time parishioner of St. Paul of Tarsus in Clinton Township and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

His favorite past time was spending time with his family. He enjoyed family gatherings, but especially enjoyed their annual dinners. His favorite dish was Sauerbraten with potato dumplings, but German Potato Salad came in a close second.

For the last 53 years, Paul and his family would spend time in Ludington over the summer. He enjoyed watching the sunsets over the lake and taking his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to the House of Flavors.

Paul had an affinity for maps. He absolutely loved to plan a trip and many refer to him as the first GPS! He didn’t just love to travel, he enjoyed the geography as well. He knew all the states and their capitals. When the grandchildren and great grandchildren were old enough and could name every state and their corresponding capital, he would reward them with $50.

Paul lived an extremely full life and will be missed by all who knew him.

Paul was the beloved husband of the late Mary. Loving father of Eric (Kris) Ross, Martin (Debra) Ross, Raymond (Judy) Ross, Kenneth (Eileen) Ross, and Janet (Paul) Ruggirello. Dear grandfather of Scott (Jamie) Ross, Matthew Ross, Meghan (William) Wilkinson, Brian (Johnna) Ross, Laurie (Melzar) Coulter, Linda (William) Richards, Rachel Ross, Nathan (Danielle) Ross, Kelli (Kyle) Scott, Kevin (Erica) Ross, Alex Ross, Sean Hedges, Kevin Hedges, Brian Hedges, Melissa (Chad) Erdman, and Kelsey (Adam) Heilig. Paul was the cherished great grandfather of Andrea, Joshua, Danny, Jackson, Martin, Elsie, Isaac, Evan, Sylvia, Sophia, Hannah, Arlo, Gabe, Alexis, Adam, Sierra, Raelynn, and has two more on the way. He is further survived by his brother, Francis Ross and an uncle and great uncle to many.

Visitation for Paul will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 3 – 8 at The Clinton Township Chapel of Chas. Verheyden Funeral Home, 43300 Garfield Road Clinton Township, with an evening service. On Wednesday, May 29, 2019, Paul will lie in state from 9:30 am until the time of his funeral mass at 10 am at St. Paul of Tarsus Catholic Church, 41300 Romeo Plank Road Clinton Township where Father Jerry Slowinski will preside. Paul will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township next to his wife Mary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Servants of Mary, 7400 Military Avenue, Omaha, NE 68134.

I am very sad to hear of Paul's passing. Paul and my dad Bud Tegler were life long friends from the beginning to the end. I know they did many things together growing up and later in life my parents and Paul and Mary got together often. I have many memories of them partying at my parents house on Walled Lake. When my dad passed in 2016 Ray was kind enough to bring his dad to the funeral home to visit. We had a great conversation that day and I always appreciated the fact that Paul wanted to be there and that Ray brought him all the way out to Walled Lk. Paul and Mary too were always very special people to my family growing up. I know how much Paul loved going to Ludington as he told me once when he visited us in Manistee one year while there camping. He and Mary went for a ride and stopped by to say hi and visit. I know Paul was a great guy who loved his family and friends and will be missed by all those who knew him. I am sorry I am out of town this week and unable to attend his funeral but I will say a prayer today for him and his family.
